What goes in:
Over 1,000 tons of organic byproducts
Over 1,000 tons of organic byproducts
Renewable electricity, recycled aluminum and cardboard
With over 55 million pounds of beans processed each year, Bush’s isn’t just a household name – they’re a bean-powered force of nature. That kind of volume brings big responsibilities: ensuring top-tier food safety and figuring out what to do with byproducts and off-spec product. Spoiler alert: “toss it in the trash” isn’t on Bush’s menu.
Over the years, Bush’s has invested in smarter production processes, energy-efficient operations, and waste reduction strategies – all with the same care they put into every can. But don’t take our word for it, to see how Bush’s Beans brings their sustainability mission to life, watch the video below:
And now, they’ve taken it a step further.
Bush’s has partnered with VIRESCO to turn food waste into a resource. Through VIRESCO’s patented anaerobic digestion solution, we have helped divert over 1,000 tons of organic byproducts from landfills, giving it new life as renewable energy.
What does 1,000 tons mean for the planet?
It’s a cleaner, greener way to close the loop – and it fits right into Bush’s no-nonsense, no-waste philosophy. And we’re just getting started. Bush’s Beans partnership with VIRESCO is a great example of what happens when iconic brands take sustainability seriously.
“VIRESCO has been a great partner in helping us keep product out of the landfill and enhancing our sustainability efforts. What truly sets them apart is their commitment to understanding our needs and developing solutions that work for us,” said Brad Krings, Director of Operations
Because when you’re feeding millions of people and building a legacy, how you handle waste matters. Bush’s means business, For Goodness’ Sake, and so do we.
Roll that beautiful bean footage!
